In the spring of 2010, NASCAR fans will finally have a chance to feel some of the sheer speed experienced every weekend by their favorite drivers on the racing circuit. Kings Dominion amusement park in Doswell, Va. -- smack dab in the middle of stock-car country -- is erecting a gigantic, 5,100-foot-long roller coaster named the Intimidator 305 after the late, great Dale Earnhardt Sr. Towering 305 feet in the air, it will be one of two “giga-coasters” in the U.S., and the tallest and fastest of its kind on the East Coast.

As you probably guessed, the roller coaster’s cars will be designed after Earnhardt’s signature black Chevy Lumina. Riders will travel at speeds in excess of 90 mph during the 3-minute adrenaline rush. And while that’s less than half of what the legendary Intimidator pulled off on any given Sunday, it’s definitely enough to knock your socks off, slam you back in your seat and cause you to soil your pants. The main descent, which is about 300 feet, is almost straight down at an 85 degree angle. There are three high-speed turns and no fewer than six air-time humps. If you’re not laughing wickedly or in cardiac arrest by the time it’s all over, consider us shocked.

King’s Dominion is dumping $25 million into the project.
