Audi, Electric?
A mysterious microsite spurs rumors about Audi's plans for electric hybrids
It also generated some interesting feedback from eagle-eyed readers, who pointed out that audiusa.com itself has a microsite called "Electricity Untamed." It's flashy and has a slick design and it says, well, pretty much nothing. Just some various statistics about electricity and power usage, plus links to various Facebook posts, Tweets and YouTube videos speculating on what, exactly, the site is about; rumors range from an RS3 reveal to an electric R8 concept. It also has some homemade-looking, electricity-themed videos, plus a countdown ticker in the upper left corner that ends on Sept. 15 -- which just happens to be media day at the Frankfurt Auto Show. Hmmmm ....
A call to Christian Bokich, who works product and technology communications for Audi USA, didn't help -- it wasn't "no comment" as much as "there's nothing I can really tell you right now." He did point out that the embargo will be lifted at 7:00 a.m. EST on Sept. 15, so you, like we, will have to wait until then to find out what Audi has up its sleeve, and whether de Nysschen will have any backtracking to do about the viability of electric hybrids.
