Hands-on with Garmin Suzuki Infotainment System

Debut at the New York International Auto Show displays how car technology is trickling down.

By Douglas Newcomb Apr 6, 2012 12:44PM
Earlier this week, we reported that Garmin will be providing an infotainment system for all 2013 Suzuki vehicles and that it was debuting at the 2012 New York International Auto Show. While the price hasn't been announced and availability of the system is still months away, it shows how advanced technology such as smartphone integration is trickling down into low-priced vehicles.

We mentioned in Monday's post that we would get a hands-on demo while in New York. While the system doesn't have the slickest graphics and Garmin's mapping display looks a bit dated, it does boast all the latest tech must-haves: Bluetooth hands-free for phone and music streaming, iPod integration, Pandora Internet radio and, of course, navigation. But it also provides connected-car features such as the ability to find parking spaces and report on weather in real time, and it includes a voice-activated text messaging feature.
