2013 Ford Escape to Offer 30 mpg or Better, No Matter the Engine
Compact crossover boasts a more aerodynamic body style for increased efficiency.
Those looking to buy the 2013 Ford Escape will have three engine options to choose from -- all of them EPA-certified at 30 mpg or better, Automotive News reported today.
Available in the Escape will be:
- A 1.6-liter 178-horsepower Ecoboost with 184 lb-ft of torque (23 mpg city/33 mpg highway).
- A 2.0-liter 240-horsepower Ecoboost with 270 lb-ft of twist (22/30).
- The 2.5-liter 168-horsepower iVCT with 170 lb-ft of torque (22/31) now offered on the current Escape.
While the latter engine is the same, fuel efficiency gets a 3 mpg bump thanks to a new body style that is 10 percent more aerodynamic, according to Ford.
One powertrain option no longer on the list: a hybrid. Ford has dropped the Atkinson cycle 4-cylinder engine/electric motor combo that was part of the Escape range through the 2012 model year; instead, the upcoming C-Max -- based on the Escape platform -- will be a hybrid-only option.
The base model Escape S will offer the 2.5-liter iVCT, while the 1.6-liter Ecoboost will do base duty on the SE, SEL and Titanium trims.
The 2013 Escape will arrive at dealerships next month.
