WardsAuto picks the top 10 car interiors
Seven slots go to Asian brands, and a pickup makes the cut for the first time.
From the luxury segment all the way down to subcompacts, car and truck interiors are getting better every year.
The annual Ward's 10 Best Interiors list highlights some of the best cabins in the business, and since MSN Autos has spent plenty of time in these 2013 models, we're apt to agree.
WardsAuto World editors picked their favorite vehicle interiors after evaluating 46 vehicles that were either all-new or received interiors that were extensively upgraded.
Seven of the 10 spots on the list were claimed by Asian automakers, and two entry-class cars made the cut. This year is also the first time WardsAuto editors picked a truck.
The top vehicles WardsAuto picked out are below (click each car to see interior photos and more car details on MSN Autos):
- 2013 Acura RDX
- 2013 Cadillac XTS
- 2013 Chevrolet Spark
- 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport
- 2014 Kia Forte
- 2013 Lexus GS 450h
- 2014 Mazda6
- 2013 Nissan Pathfinder
- 2013 Ram 1500 Laramie Longhorn
- 2013 Toyota Avalon
WardsAuto editors selected the winners after driving the vehicles on their daily commutes, then scoring each interior based on materials, ergonomics, comfort, safety, value, fit-and-finish and overall design. Interiors were also graded on the user-friendliness of the human-machine interface, access to vehicle information and how easy it was to connect a mobile phone.
“It wasn't uncommon all that long ago for automakers to view interiors as the best place to take cost out of a vehicle,” WardsAuto World editor-in-chief, Drew Winter, said in a statement. “They eventually figured out that's a big mistake because people spend a lot more time looking at the inside of their car than the outside.”
Not counting the sister company wins by Hyundai for the Santa Fe Sport and Kia for the Forte, General Motors scored a twofer with the Cadillac XTS (pictured above) and the Chevrolet Spark, which represent opposite ends of the U.S. automaker’s offerings. Along with the ATS, the XTS was one of two big introductions for GM’s luxury division for 2013. The Spark, on the other hand, is a South Korean-produced entry-level car priced under $16,000 and designed to appeal to younger buyers.
The redesigned Ram 1500 is the first pickup to make the WardsAuto 10 Best Interiors list. The truck was tested with its upscale Western-themed Laramie Longhorn trim. WardsAuto gushed that "if Bentley made a pickup truck, its cabin would look like this.”
Damn, so what you are telling us is that Wards is now also on the foreign payroll along with most other auto rating organizations?
