2008 Best Overall Value Awards

The IntelliChoice.com Best Overall Value of the Year (BOVY) awards recognize vehicles in a variety of categories that deliver the best value and lower than expected overall ownership costs over a five-year period.

The Toyota Prius was named the Best Overall Car Under $24,000 for the third consecutive year, while the Chevrolet Corvette Convertible was named the Best Overall Car Over $24,000.

"There is a diverse mix of automakers among the car winners," said James Bell, publisher and editor of IntelliChoice.com. "But Toyota and GM account for more than half the total list of winners. Toyota is a perennial leader in quality and value, but these findings also speak to the tremendous strides that GM has made in recent years in delivering desirable, durable, and high-value vehicles."

This is the 22nd year that IntelliChoice has published ownership cost and value analysis, based on data aggregated from auto manufacturers, the U.S. government, and third-party data resources. IntelliChoice.com analyzes all aspects of the costs to own and operate a vehicle over time to determine the winners, including sticker price, depreciation/retained value, maintenance and repair costs, fuel costs, insurance and state fees.

According to IntelliChoice, the BOVY winners are the vehicles that represent the best return on investment in each category for the 2008 model year. In addition to the eight overall category winners, IntelliChoice identified 33 winning models by segment and class.

"The BOVY Awards are an important guide at a time when consumers are tightening their belts," said Bell. "They tell us which cars, trucks and Crossover/SUVs deliver the most bang for the buck. With indicators pointing to a tough 2008, it is vital that buyers do their homework and determine the vehicles that fit their budget."
