The Charger is one of three vehicles from the Chrysler Group of DaimlerChrysler to be featured on the AAA/Parents magazine list of Best Family Cars.
A total of 15 vehicles were selected in five categories. The top three vehicles were chosen in Minivans, Sedans, SUVs, Crossovers and Economy vehicles. The crossover category replaces the station wagon category from last year.
According to Parents and AAA, safety was one of the primary concerns when they selected the top vehicles. Winners are among the top performers in crash tests conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

To make these selections, Parents and AAA considered everything from airbags and fuel economy to cupholders and cargo space. The reviewers also put a variety of child seats into every vehicle, ensuring installation was both easy and secure.
Only six of the vehicles listed for 2006 are repeat winners from last year. These include popular models such as the Chrysler Town & Country, Honda Civic, Toyota Sienna, Nissan Murano, Mazda Mazda3 and Honda Odyssey.
A number of the winners are all-new for 2006, such as the Subaru B9 Tribeca, Dodge Charger, Ford Fusion and Jeep Commander.
In 2005 the ratio of imports over domestic-branded vehicles chosen was about two to one. This trend has changed slightly for 2006, with six of the fifteen vehicles chosen wearing domestic brands.
