Audi Takes on Nürburgring
Seven Audi R8 LSM racers will hit Germany's Grand Prix track this weekend.
There will be seven Audi R8 LMS racers contesting the 24 Hours of Nürburgring this weekend.
Three teams — ABT Sportsline, Black Falcon and Phoenix Racing — will carry the torch for Audi. Phoenix will have three cars, and the other squads will each run two.
Audi debuted the R8 at the 'Ring last year, and one scored a class victory en route to finishing second overall. Knowledge from that race was used to further refine the car for this year.
“The experience gained on the Nordschleife last year was fed into the final version of the R8 LMS which has been delivered to our customers since this spring,” Audi motorsport boss Wolfgang Ullrich said in a statement.
With their striking visual cues — including the blades on the door, the low-slung profile and the lights — the presence of the Audi supercars should be a treat for fans of endurance racing as the mid-engine, V10-powered supercars lap the classic course in Germany.
Audi has been sending vehicles to the event since 2002. In total, more than 200 vehicles will take part in the race, and a crowd of more than 200,000 is expected. An R8 GT will lead the formation lap.
