You need to take a deeper look than the news reporting network you watch.. Here are the facts.
1) GM took 50 Billion of TARP Money (Chrysler took 12). GM with the UAW took control with OBAMA and decaled Bankruptcy. The second Obama let that happen (without the courts) the 50 Billion was gone forever. That made the news for one day... Fiat paid back the 12 for Chrysler. UAW took the 50 and paid off all of the old GM workers that were UAW members. Then GM Came back to the congress and asked for 20 Billion for their restructuring. Yes.. their IPO paid back 8 Billion only.. Obama sold back the remaining stock to GM at a 12 billion loss. That pal is 62 Billion they owe us... Look it up and you,ll find this. P.M. did a story on this and indicated the tax payer paid $5,000.for every GM vehicle sold for the next 5 years......nuff said...
They can be left in the dust of history.
The rest of humanity will continue to develop hybrids, electric, super-efficient diesel, NG vehicles, etc. and our grandchildren will wonder what all of the arguing was about.

In my area (Dominion Electric) the electricity is produced using 38% coal, 42% nuclear, 17% natural gas, 2% renewables, 1% oil.
The latest turbine generators are about ~35% efficient in converting the heat energy into electricity.
The small internal combustion engine in a car or truck is only about ~15% in converting heat energy to wheel rotation.
An electric motor is ~ 80% efficient in converting electric energy to wheel rotation.
Several studies have been done showing that:
from coal mining to generator to high voltage transmission to battery to electric motor to wheels is a more energy efficient system than:
from oil well pumping to transportation to refiner to transportation to gas tank to engine to wheels
(the coal is mined just a few miles from where it is used. Oil usually travels hundreds or thousands of miles)
Electricity can be produced from almost any energy source. There are dozens of ways to make electricity, there is only one way to get gasoline.
Currently, and likely for many years to come, about one-half of the oil we use will be imported from foreign producers. Electricity is almost 100% USA produced (a small amount in the northeast comes from Canada).
I drive a Volt. I now have traveled over 17,000 miles using 61 gallons of gasoline (and USA produced electricity). Electricity is much cheaper than gasoline.
I charge up every night when the power company has a surplus of electricity (so much that they give me a discount for charging at night)
If most electric car drivers charge at night (which currently 93% do) the USA electric grid could support about 40 million electric cars without any upgrade.
We've been force fed government propaganda for elecric cars for years now and they are at 3.3 percent in sales. There's a reason for that. Less than 1% really benefit from using electrics. Another 2 percent think they are good citizens for buying in to electric think. But the reality is that electrics are poor performers, unsafe and you pay through the nose for the batteries (which cost a fortune to replace), so any gas savings are lost and then some. Resale will be terrible as more and more realize that these are politically driven, not market driven. The disposal issue is conveniently ignored by proponents also..
If you gave me one, I'd trade it immediately for a gas model.
Re: GRAPHITE AND GRAPHENE
These 2 products are going to change the Battery World in a Big Way real soon. A small company in Canada "Northern Graphite is now quickly getting read to produce Graphite/Graphene. This is what the R&D World is saying the Battery people need to make a Big Change in Battery Power. China has almost closed any exports to us concerning these products.
I know what you are saying right now. but just take a few minutes and Google the company and the 2 products. Company name: Northern Graphite and just check out GRAPHENE you will be surprised.
Solar, Medical and the Military need as much of these 2 products as they can get thier hands on.
