You could GIVE me any of these cars, whereupon I would immediately sell it outright or trade it for something I really wanted to drive.

And while your celebrating give us a big cheer for all that coal and crude thats going to be burned to produce the electricity that charges the batteries that powers the car that you call green!!! Alcohol is Gods gift to us. Totally renewable, Burns absolutely clean, produces more hp than gasoline, makes engines last twice as long as gasoline or diesel.
In 1918 Henry Ford was asked by a reporter "Mr. Ford, what do you see in the future? Henry Ford said without hesitation, I see Alcohol stores on every corner."
It was a no brainer. Alcohol was the best possible fuel for cars but little did we know that dark forces were going to force us to use a dirty fuel so they could maintain a monopoly over us. To show you the extent to which our US history has been twisted, prohibition wasn't enforced to keep us from drinking alcohol. More alcohol was consumed during prohibition than before or afterwards. So why? It was to keep individuals from producing anything that could be used as a fuel for vehicles. Now you can say that youve learned something new today. Pass it on.

The Ford Fusion was the winner?! Apparently, the editors of this article didn't read Consumer Reports' article on the huge discrepancy between the EPA numbers and reality:

I don't understand why BEVs and PHEVs aren't included.

I'm betting it costs a coal plant just as much power to refine the gas that otherwise could be plugged right into a battery equiped car.  I've seen comparisons on output from coal plants, natural gas plants, ect, But they don't make sense because none of them include the fact that gas still needs to be refined from the oil.   What power is used then?  If those plants were shut down, how many BEV's could people plug before taking the same amount of power?

Not to mention the cost to taxpayers to keep US warships patrolling the middle east to protect the oil we wouldn't have to buy or protect if more people had batteries.  I'd rather pay my local power company than the middle east.

Oh, and power in my area is mostly hydroelectric.  I've seen people say something about not mattering what area because electrons move from wherever, but power companies know if their buying or producing excess to sell, and my power company only buys during peak times.  Their web site says 8% of their power is from other sources.

I've been thinking about installing a solar array on my roof to be one of their other sources, and charging my car with the sun.  If I install enough to make a surplus, they'll pay me..

Can you do that with your Focus?  Why burn anything and produce even more greenhouse gasses?

I swear this MSN "greenest" thing looks like it's owned by Exxon or something.

I agree with Mr. Anthrope.  I would sell any of these cars and buy a second Chevy Volt for my wife.

What a farce.  No car that uses batteries for power is green.  The damage done to the environment by producing these batteries is more than the muscle cars of the 60's and 70's.  The damage done to the environment when the batteries are end of life, is more than the full lifetime of any gasoline car.  Convert to alcohol and make your own.  Be free my friends.
