I agree with some of this. Cars do need to shave a few pounds that's for sure. The driver seat of a chevy suburban weighs 90+ lbs. I mean come on. The Amish could build a lighter seat. If the Corvette has taught us anything its you can build a lightweight aerodynamic car that gets good fuel mileage and it can still be beautiful.

But on the other hand they coming up with all this techno crap to apply brakes or stop the cars. Who is making these cars go? That's what is wrong with traffic now. The cars are slowing themselves down and the drivers are all on the phone unaware the have slowed down to 45mph. Plus they want to put facebook and twitter in your car. If they were really worried about safety they wouldn't allow any electronic devices in new cars.

Get people back to driving again instead of playing with gadgets.

Driver education is really what we need not gadgets to help idiots drive.

The scary thing about all this techno crap like cars that parallel park for you and brake for you and all this other stuff coupled with all this Facebook and text crap that is going on while you should be driving is it is going to reduce peoples driving skills and common sense to zero.
In a few more years new drivers coming on board will be more concerned with how many Facebook friends and how many internet favorites the new car can simultaneously handle instead of concentrating on the road.   I say make the driving tests much harder and more often . Pass them or take a cab!!!  That will reduce the car count on the road by millions!!

Not in my car!! If I'm still alive and kicking in 2020, I'll probably have the same car I have now!

Want to buy new a Crown Vic? How about a new Grand Marquis?  How about a new Lincoln Town Car? Sorry you can't, because they don't make them any more.

But they can cram you in to a Ford Fiesta.Smile Thank you Al Gore.Wink

With the high fuel prices, and huge cost of cars that get 62 mpg, you'll drive a small cracker box or not be able to afford a car at all. I don't mind saying that I would find it hard to pay for a $50,000.00 Chevy Volt, even if I wanted one. What about having to spend a couple thousand on a charging system for some of these cars? If you're power is off because of a storm, I guess you'll just use a day of vacation if you still have a job.

By the time manufacturers get done adding all these gizmos no one will be able to afford a new car.

Unless you've been living in a cave or a NY apartment there are still interesting cars available at reachable prices and motorcycles are still fun and get great real world mileage. What I want to know is how much it's going to cost to fix these rolling computers and who's going to do it.

I still want my flying car and jetpack we were supposed to get in 2000.
