The car you want is a pre 85 mercedes diesel sedan. This is a mechanical engine not dependant on a computer. This car will run on diesel, kero, veg oil, or even waste oil. Without a doubt this is the car I want to get out of town should things get rough. On the other hand an older (Pre 1990) cummins powered road tractor would do the job too. Thats because You could roll start it and put the pump on manual. No electrical power is required at all, TRUTH!

First, find something that will run on ethanol and has no computers in it. After WW III the refineries will not be offline, they will be gone, but almost anyone can make ethanol. After WW III there will be no solid state computers as the EMP will fry them and the residual radiation will keep them from being built for quite a while.

ljcbowler Unfortunately you are far from the mark, my age isn't really important but its up there in years.. I have owned a 1987 jeep wrangler t, the likes of you will never own ( as it was a one of a kind prepared by Shelby for the guy I bought it from). It was a great reliable vehicle if you throw away the cat converter and the crappy carter carb that where fitted as standard,. Put on a webber remove the cat and the little clockwork emmisions box and all the pipework, and you almost double the mpg, plus it will drive right of the end of the speedo. But for all that they put a transmission from a french van in the drive train , and it has problems. I also own a 1954 Chevy pickup the thing starts first time, each push of the floor starter and the engine doesn't crank a full cycle before its running, Old points / contact breaker ignition good solid reliable engine, that has a plate on the distributer so you can set it too what grade of fuel you are using. And as I mentioned they are quite easy too convert too run on propane as mine already does. If you think I am ill informed, that is your right , but I will say I was a Engineer for Bmw and I helped in getting the current Mini into production.

Which way to a gas station? Except for the electric/solar cars they're all still dependent on "infrastructure" fuel sources. I'd want an electric/solar powered Truck.or Van with the ability to tow a decent load. about 300hp. With the ability to generate electric power through various methods it seems most practical. The motors are there, the batteries are not.. Nice to dream though.

Seriously? What a total crap list of nonsensical vehicles.
1) EMP issues anyone? Fry your fuel-injected buddies?
2) Fuel consumption anyone?
3) A PORSCHE 911?? Really? REALLY??? Just how the f*** is THAT supposed to handle off-road?
4) OK, I kind of like the military looking thing, but there are better ones. (Fast Five's Indian APV for instance)
5) Jeep CHEROKEE? Are you f'ing nuts?????
6) A SOLAR powered gimmick-mobile? Well, it will just keep your brains warm for the zombies I guess...
7) A bunch of old, obsolete, junkers, now trashed into oblivion because of the Cash for Clunkers bill, vehicles with NO ability to go off-road, and some popular cross overs? What the f'ing f are you idiots smoking??
You want a REAL survival vehicle?
